So, I usually prefer AO3 for reading and writing, but decided to make a Wattpad account to post my stories across multiple platforms. Starting with Giant Dancing Hedgehogs are Nightmare Fuel!
Tumblr media
Summary of Giant Dancing Hedgehogs are Nightmare Fuel:
There are several scenarios that Pete suspects to walk in on when he arrives back at the hospital:
Scenario 1: Vegas is still asleep and Macau and Tankhun have somehow managed to remain civil towards each other. This seems like the least likely scenario.
Scenario 2: Vegas is still asleep and Tankhun has tied Macau to a chair for the hell of it. While this would cause a great amount of trouble, it is almost comforting in its normalcy.
Scenario 3: Vegas has woken up and spilled every single secret that he has in his drugged up state, leaving him even more vulnerable than ever.
Scenario 4: Macau has killed Tankhun in a fit of grief stricken rage, which causes Arm, in turn, to kill Macau in a fit of grief stricken rage, since Arm and Tankhun are apparently in love and Pete can’t stop thinking about it.
Scenario 5: Tankhun has verbally attacked drugged up, pod person Vegas, which has caused him to burst into tears and pull out his IV, in hopes that he bleeds out.
It’s none of those things. Those things would be expected. Nothing happening right now is expected.
Some people love detailed spoilers and some people hate them. Stop reading now if you want to go in spoiler free.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
Some themes of this story include:
1. Post-Canon: It accepts pretty much everything that happened up until the one month later epilogue in the finale.
2. Trauma: These characters are TRAUMATIZED. They are traumatized by the night of the attack, they are traumatized by their pasts and being abused/manipulated/gaslit, and they are all collectively traumatized by Korn. And Gun. But Korn is the real villain in this series.
3. Recovery: This primarily applies to Vegas, but also to other characters. Vegas is recovering from a coma and significant injuries. One is a hypoxic brain injury, which makes his autism a bit more apparent and something Macau eventually explains to Pete.
4. Autistic Vegas: In this story, Vegas has autism. He is low supports needs, intelligent, and his autism mainly becomes apparent with sensory processing, emotional regulation, and a little with social cues. His symptoms were more apparent when he was a child, but he learned how to mask. He struggles with masking more after coming out of his coma and pushes Pete away due to this, along with his guilt from his actions. Pete eventually talks to him bluntly and Vegas accepting his autism as part of his identity is something he works on through this fic.
5. Amnesia: Pete and Vegas have a history that goes much farther back than some funny run-ins and the safehouse. While Vegas has been pining for Pete for years, Pete forgets their friendship/sort of relationship due to being attacked on the job, resulting in a TBI and amnesia. This gets out when Vegas asks him if Pete remembers Vegas having a crush on him when they were young.
6. Cousin Reconciliation: Tankhun takes this first step in making amends with Vegas with Arm's support. Kim follows. Kinn gets there.
7. Side Couples: ArmKhun are the supporting lead couple. They are probably the healthiest couple in this series and have their own prequel story on AO3 that is longer than this story. Something to note: Tankhun protected Vegas during their kidnapping and was physically and sexually assaulted. His "hatred" for Vegas stemmed from resentment and trauma, which broke Vegas's heart because he genuinely loved and looked up to Tankhun as an older brother figure. Tankhun held onto that resentment for quite some time, but he also held onto a lot of guilt. When he saw Vegas shot over the security cameras, he was devastated. He - along with Arm and later Porsche - were the ones to get Vegas quick treatment and transferred to a good hospital. Arm is also a victim of abuse in this series. This is one of the main reasons why Tankhun chose him - along with Pete and Pol - as guards. They understand, they won't judge him, and he hopes they know he doesn't think less of them either. Arm is very aware of why Tankhun chose them and sees Vegas as a victim too (without knowing the abuse Vegas faced later on). He accepts and encourages the reconciliation because he loves Tankhun and knows it will bring him peace. Tankhun, Arm, and Kim are also discovering the kidnapping may have been ordered by someone close to them as damage control/retaliation.
KimChay are at odds but co-existing while Kim visits Vegas (+pines for Chay) and Chay hangs with his new bestie Macau (while holding a grudge against Kim). Kim is kind of going through it and arguably on the brink of a mental health crisis. He is also yearning for a connection with his brothers and cousins, especially after learning how much Korn put them all through. Chay has a bigger role in the sequel of this story, but he is forming a brotherly bond with Macau, is expressing how wronged he felt by both Porsche and Kim, yet is trying to support people in the ways he knows how. He also struggles with connecting to his mother, who can't communicate and doesn't seem to remember him.
KinnPorsche have a LOT on their plates in this series. Porsche has been thrusted into a role that he never expected or was trained for and is overwhelmed. He harbors hate for his boyfriend's father for keeping his mother away from him and for all of the lies. He is also worried about Kinn, who is feeling excluded from his brothers spending time together without him for unknown reasons. Kinn also carries a lot of confliction and resentment regarding his father's actions. He feels incredibly guilty and is going through mental health issues of his own.
8. Macau is very active in his brother's care and extremely protective of him. In turn, Pete protects Macau and is a good listening ear. Macau accepts Pete as family before Vegas even wakes up.
9. The Mothers: The mothers and how the boys' lost them are covered in this fic. Vegas was greatly impacted by the loss of his mother. She was his best friend and advocate. Losing his other parent and hearing of Porsche's mother bring up feelings of loss, sadness, and grief. He misses her terribly. Tankhun and Kim suspect that Korn had their own mother killed and are not surprised to hear that Vegas feels that Korn had something to do with his mother's death.
10. Crack!fic: These issues are covered seriously and treated with respect. That being said, this fic is a total crack and humor fic when it isn't doing that. Vegas says "I love you, Pete" 62 times within the first week of being awake because he can't stop saying it due to his brain injury and possible echolalia. Kim randomly starts calling Arm and Tankhun Pa and Dad, then never stops. He also tells fortunes by asking his friends and family to choose a Nintendo Switch and analyzes them by which color the choose, and his reads are extremely accurate. Due to obtaining Nintendo Switches, Arm and Tankhun run a farm together on Stardew Valley. Vegas has to be redirected away from Pokemon since he cries every time his Pokemon faint in battle. Kim tries to woo Chay by obtaining blue roses on Animal Crossing, all while Chay won't invite him to his island but will invite Vegas to give him starter crops and supplies. Pete buys Vegas a weighted blanket, something the whole family loves until it becomes sentient and starts hinting to a chosen few of their futures. Or, Pete's case, it gives him trippy dreams that always feature his boyfriend's mother.
This story is available both on AO3 (along with WIP companion stories). It is also now on Wattpad. Hope you enjoy and feel free to ask me any questions about this weird universe or for headcannons about it! Also open to prompts 🙂

doing a Ship Meme for Roz and Ulysses
PRE-RELATIONSHIP
How did they first meet?
Not at the Temple! Roz did a lot of runs to and from Hopeville, and they talked once as she was picking up a package. Roz approached Ulysses to ask how he liked Hopeville as she was thinking about settling down there with her sister. That...never happened.
What was their first impression of each other?
Roz thought he was a little odd but otherwise nice (and good-looking) and Ulysses thought she had the right idea in wanting to move to Hopeville. The accident with the Navarro package tanked his opinion of her until they met again.
Did any of their friends or family want them to get together?
Zoe had a thought that, if Ulysses ever left the Divide, he and Roz would work well together, but that was it.
Who felt romantic feelings first?
I think it was Roz! But I also think that Ulysses might not have the best grasp of what that felt like, so it just took him longer to realize that that was what he was feeling.
Did either of them try to resist their feelings?
Oh, like Mr. "I have to stay in the irradiated hellhole that is the Divide until I die for....Reasons.....like the tunnelers and marked men. Yes. I must" did???
If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think?
Roz would shrug and say "yeah, that tracks". Bring a chair and some snacks for the monologue Ulysses gives about destiny and fated encounters and what is a soulmate, exactly?
What would their lives be like if they had never met?
Very sad and boring.
GENERAL
Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?
There wasn't really a moment where they decided that they were a couple. They just...were.
What was their first kiss like?
Soft. After they were up all night talking out their feelings for each other. Wild cause they were sharing a bed half the time by that point.
Were they each other’s first anything (kiss, relationship, etc.)?
They were each other's first Serious Relationship and there's a good chance that Roz was Ulysses' first like, romantic relationship in general.
What’s their height difference? Age difference?
Roz is 5'7" and 32 when the relationship starts, Ulysses is 6'2" and 46ish?? How old is this man
What’s their relationship with each other’s families?
Zoe and Ulysses get along great! She works with the Followers combining their modern medicine with folk medicine, so they have a ton to talk about in terms of foraging, what plants can be used for what, and on a harsher note- she was a captive of the Legion for 4 years. They have a good understanding of each other.
Who takes the lead in social situations?
Roz, usually. Ulysses takes the lead when she can't.
LOVE
Who said “I love you” first?
Roz. She wasn't planning on it when she said it, but that's how it goes. She was worried he was going to go back to the Divide and just...blurted it out.
What are their primary love languages?
Ulysses is Quality Time and Acts of Service, Roz is Quality Time and Physical Touch.
How often do they cuddle/engage in PDA?
PDA? Hardly ever. You're lucky to see them holding hands. In private? They can't stay away from each other. Part of that is due to Roz's vertigo and seizures, but mainly they just like to be close.
Who initiates kisses?
Roz, usually.
Who’s the big and little spoon?
Ulysses is the little spoon. But Roz usually sleeps on top of him. He likes feeling her weight, makes him feel secure.
What are their favorite things to do together?
Who’s better at comforting the other?
Roz is very good at giving Ulysses emotional comfort and he's very good at comforting her when she's sick, which is often.
Who’s more protective?
Ulysses. Now that he's got a family and community again? Now that he has his daughters? He's not letting a damn thing happen to any of them.
Do they prefer verbal or physical affection?
Physical. Nothings helps Roz feel better then a nice cuddle.
Who remembers the little things?
Ulysses. Roz has a severe TBI and her memory sucks.
DOMESTIC LIFE
How many kids do they have, if any? What are they like?
Dakota and Sierra, their daughters. Dakota is fully a mini version of her dad- a little history buff. Sierra has mom's recklessness and sense of justice. Roz and Ulysses couldn't be more proud of them.
Do they have any pets?
Rex, mostly. The farm animals kind of count??
Who worries the most?
Ulysses.
Who kills the bugs in the house?
Whoever's closest. Roz hates Radroaches though, so those are Ulysses' job.
Who’s more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning?
Roz, 100%. Not that he'd ever refuse.

Disability and Loren
@zarohk asked for my thoughts on a Disability Studies/Media Studies perspective on the disability depictions in Animorphs.  Which was foolish, because I’m teaching an entire dang class on the subject of superheroes and mental health, so I have Many Thoughts.  [PLEASE NOTE: I am nondisabled, so if I err, please tell me so.]
Loren’s role in #49: The Diversion does a lot of things right, and a lot of things wrong.  She incurs a traumatic brain injury that results in memory loss and blindness a couple of years after Tobias is born, and lives with said injury for about ten years before Tobias finds her and gives her the ability to morph, which restores her sight but not her memory.
A few places where I commend the depiction of Loren:
It gets into the massive underemployment of disabled Americans.  Loren is smart, canny, athletic, compassionate... and working a call center job in exchange for state benefits.  Said state benefits do not afford her a decent standard of living; Tobias notes that she has few possessions and almost no time for leisure activities.  Americans with disabilities are twice as likely to be unemployed as those without, and those who do have jobs are ten times more likely to be paid less than minimum wage, e.g. in sheltered workshops.
It shows how inaccessible a lot of systems are in the U.S.  Tobias notes that Loren accidentally grabs an expired quart of milk — because nothing on the label is printed in Braille.  Putting raised text and/or Braille on food packaging is a health and safety issue, one that the U.S. ignores even though it violates its own laws (e.g. the ADA) because companies tend to do what they want and “what they want” is usually not to spend more money on packaging.  The call center and bus system are both marginally more accessible, especially when Loren has Champ to help, but they’re still clearly spaces set up for sighted people that don’t take blind users into account very well.
It shows some of the workarounds that help deal with accessibility problems.  Loren’s house is set up so that there are clear paths to and from all of the relevant spaces.  She’s doing that to allow herself to move around comfortably in that space, because she’s made it accessible for herself.  She memorizes the layout of the local store, and uses that to get around as well.  All of those details help show that she’s adjusted, and actively interacting with her own circumstances.
It drives home the difference between service dogs and pets.  This distinction is extremely important, and it gets ignored all the time by entitled ableists who want to bring their pets into stores.  Tobias and Marco both assume from the outside that it can’t be that hard to become a service animal — just do what Loren says to do, right? — but it takes Tobias 0.02 seconds to realize that it’s not that simple and that he cannot imitate Champ’s lifetime of training on the fly.  He says that he manages to get his mom home in one piece, and that that’s about all that can be said for his sad performance as a guide.  Champ has skills like ignoring interesting smells and applying exactly the right amount of pressure to the harness that most pets don’t have and also most pets can’t learn.  Champ is not a pet, at least not while he’s in that harness; he’s a gainfully employed expert assistant.
It rounds Loren out as a character, and definitely does not just make her into a lesson or problem for Tobias.  Loren is gently humorous, tolerating her coworkers’ teasing and Ax’s attempted juvenile delinquency with an eye-roll.  She’s compassionate, listening to other people’s problems on the phone with genuine concern and not swatting flies if she doesn’t have to.  She’s tough-minded and stupidly brave, chucking rocks at Visser Three’s head and flying at attack helicopters as a three-pound bird.  She’s fallible, unable to support Tobias emotionally even when he asks her to do so and unwilling to check in on him after leaving him with her sister.  She’s a fully rounded person, one whose personality is informed but not defined by her disability.
It talks about some of the unromatic aspects of a Traumatic Brain Injury.  Too often in other works of fiction, we see a person get bonked over the head and wake up with no episodic memory but all other brain functions intact (*cough* Rachel in MM1 *cough*).  Loren actually gets into the fact that she forgot huge chunks of language, forgot how to brush her teeth, forgot how to walk across a room.  She obviously lost her sight as well, and she mentions lifelong balance and coordination problems.  Even her amnesia isn’t absolute — she has some traces of recall, but can’t make anything coherent of her impressions.  Her injury isn’t 100% realistic, but it’s more so than many TBIs we see in fiction.
It focuses on the intersection of disability and social class.  Tobias notes that Loren is under a compounded threat because of her inability to move to a more secure neighborhood and her obvious vulnerability.  He feels a lot of disgust with himself when he and Marco and Ax are harassing Loren, because it’s so clear that this isn’t the first time she’s been harassed.  Tobias understands that his experience with poverty as a nondisabled male minor is different from Loren’s for those reasons.
A few places where Loren falls into the common traps of implied ableism creeping into fiction, as written about in Narrative Prosthesis:
She gets “cured.”  Loren falls into the “kill or cure” dichotomy, like most of the other disabled characters in Animorphs.  In her case, it’s that she gains the power to morph and in the process regains the ability to see.  It isn’t a complete cure, true — she still has no memory — but it means that she’s no longer blind for the rest of the series.  Having the occasional character no longer be disabled sometimes isn’t automatically problematic; having every disabled character get either “fixed” or killed off inherently treats the disabled body as a problem that needs to be solved, through sci fi nonsense if no other way is available.
She implies that she’d rather die than continue to be disabled.  When injured by dracon burns, Loren initially refuses to morph out even though Tobias tells her she’ll die if she remains a bird, because (they both assume) to morph out is to return to her blind human body.  This moment buys into the stereotype that it’s better to be dead than disabled, again inherently devaluing the lives of actual blind individuals.
There’s a certain amount of mystery around how she became disabled.  It’s interesting that we never actually get a definitive answer on that one — Loren says she was told it was a car crash, but there’s also an implication that she was attacked by controllers, and we don’t know for sure.  However, the fact of her disability is treated as an aberrant state that needs to be explained, the book inherently asking “why are you like this?”  By contrast (for instance) she doesn’t ask Tobias “why are you in the body of a hawk?”
She views herself as a burden, and the narration doesn’t do enough to contradict her.  Loren says that she couldn’t possibly be expected to raise a child while also blind and coping with a TBI.  Real blind people raise kids all the time, however, including blind single parents, and it’d be nice to see some evidence in the story that Loren’s assumption is wrong.  Loren also apparently assumes that she can’t begin to play a role in Tobias’s life even now that Tobias is more self-sufficient, again because she views herself as relatively helpless and non-contributing due to her disability.  There are some hints that she’s wrong, but we don’t really see her either begin to contribute to the resistance or build a relationship with Tobias until after she’s become un-blind.
Tobias’s view of Loren is often pitying.  As much as Loren doesn’t initially view herself as a potential maternal figure to Tobias, he doesn’t view her as a potential mentor either.  He repeatedly expresses horror or sadness at her life circumstances, and assumes that her life must be barren due to the spartan nature of her home.  (Of course, that begs the question of why the hell a blind woman living alone would ever bother hanging pictures on her walls or putting doilies on her coffee tables, but Tobias doesn’t consider that angle.)  Again, Tobias is allowed to assume that her life must be meaningless if she’s disabled, but it’d be nice to see some contradictory evidence in the form of her having close friends or inane hobbies or some other proof that to lead a disabled life is not to automatically lead a lonely one.
Loren expresses bitterness and desperate desire to be nondisabled.  Again, it’s fine for any character to say “I wish my life was different,” and it’s a common consensus among blind writers/bloggers that being blind is often a pain in the butt.  However, views as extreme as “you need vision to have a fulfilling existence” or “vision is part of what makes us human” are ableist crocks of shit.  Loren doesn’t go so far as to espouse those extreme views, but she also doesn’t seem to view herself as having a well-rounded life in spite of her disability.  It’d be nice to see Loren talking about sight as handy or enjoyable or a thing that the designers of 99% U.S. environments assume everyone must have, rather than a necessary precondition for a minimum standard of life.
Loren’s disability is somewhat medicalized.  Same caveat as above: disabilities are by definition medical things that some bodies do or have that other bodies do not.  However, discussing disability primarily through “this is how your body is different from Implied Normal of Nondisabled Body” and focusing on doctor’s notes, diagnoses, physical differences, etc. can serve to disconnect the lived experience of the individual from their body.  It also tends to focus on the ways that the body is “the problem” rather than focusing on the ways that environments and attitudes are problematic, which then prevents anyone from asking hard questions about the environments and attitudes.  Loren’s doctor’s note, discussion of scarring and loss, and repeated physical descriptions are somewhat more medical than social.  It’d be nice to see a little more emphasis on the social factors that make blindness a disability (e.g. improperly labeled milk), and less on “your eyes are different from those of Implied Normal Nondisabled Person.”

Some personal news
Funny how whenever anyone says they have 'some personal news', it's always professional news, isn't it?
It was my turn yesterday. After more than seven years at the Institute for Government, I've decided it's time for a new challenge. I'll be going freelance from 1 January, so please get in touch if you'd like to work with me (all interesting projects on data, digital, openness, government, etc considered). I'll also be working on a book idea. Exciting, if also a little bit vaguely terrifying...
I'll still be an associate at the IfG, and still running our Data Bites event series. (Put Wednesday 2 December in your diary for the next one, and then Wednesday 3 February 2021 after that.)
And - rest assured! - I'll still be writing this newsletter, though it will be taking a break for much of December.
Just one more thing this week: I have a report out (with colleagues Marcus and Oliver) on digital government (in the UK) during the coronavirus crisis. There's a nice write-up from diginomica here, some nice quotes for the paperback from Tanya Filer and Tom Loosemore, and I'll be on the IfG podcast talking about it later. I'm a big fan of this chart, which tells the story of the crisis through visitors to GOV.UK.
This is the second of three reports on digital government we're publishing this autumn - the first was on policy making in a digital world, and the third, on future technology and the government workforce, will be out soon.
Have a great weekend
Gavin

I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to those who have donated to my campaign so far. I don’t know where I would be without your help. Because of your generosity, I’ve been able to buy my groceries, pay my phone bill, cover my car insurance, and go to acupuncture and other medical appointments. In the past month I’ve had numerous appointments each week; being chronically ill is a full-time job. It’s a full-time job that you have no choice but to work, every moment of the day. I had my six-hour social security neuropsychological assessment two weeks ago. It was the most grueling and exhausting thing I’ve ever been through, both mentally and physically. I had to divulge every facet of my entire life – work history, mental health, physical health, and trauma. Drudging up almost every major negative experience that’s happened to me was excruciating. Just that appointment alone wiped me out for an entire week. I’m now almost one-third of my way to my goal. With further help I can continue to get the care that I need to work towards independence. I find myself more a little bit each day and am in a better place because of your kindness and support. Thank you so much, please share my story with others to help me reach my goal. You make a difference and I will continue to fight to live another day and be able to have the care I desperately need. https://www.gofundme.com/keephopealive #gofundme #keephopealive #chronicfatigue #trigeminalneuralgia #brainsurgery #recoverywarrior #pleasehelp #asd #eds #autismspeaks #autismmemes #crohnsdisease #crohns #rheumatoidarthritis #ulcerativecolitis #bohemianfashion #oregonnw #eugeneoregon #oregonlife #bellspalsy #rehabilitation #chronicallyill #spoonielife #spooniestrong #hannahcrazyhawk #helping #staysharp #tbi #bohovibes #gofundmedonations (at Eugene, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvnIM7rgxWP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=bv4mtlfcctri

Thankful we are safe and have neighbors who bless us with their helping love & care for us ; note - one is almost 79 years old, a former Delta Force become a pastor… these men (and many others) know of my limitations and have helped us after every hurricane since my TBi in 2006. Next pic: this was an example of real honest news. See. Pray. Make decisions. Prepare. Execute. Pic 3: sadly, a much-too-common subjective-blame that helps no one today AND which feeds victim-hood thinking (versus making a choice and living with the responsibility.) Pic 4: More info-news; for people to make their own choices. Pic 5: Big picture the storm most of us ignore or are distracted by the realities of our own life; which does not change the storm forthcoming (which will lead to much harder choices than evacuate from hurricane or not.) Pic 6: From our own CBO (Congressional Budget Office), with projections in 2019 when our federal debt (which does NOT include Social Security & other we-already-paid-into-with-every-paycheck programs) was actually $22 TRiLLiON. Twas projected to be $26 trillion for 2022 but is now over $30 trillion as of noon today… or $92,658 owed by every man, woman, & child in America. Pic 7: We are back to a storm… distractions (real or perceived); ideological la-la-land (meaning not having a realistic strategy Americans want - versus being forced upon us by more & more laws, strong-arms, persecution, sell-your-soul-to-have-something like some countries do); and, hopelessness, selfishness, and death… the exact opposite of my first pic of one an-other help & unity, love & care, reality & hope. Seeds grow into good fruit or weeds, depending on what one CHOOSES to plant & care for, weed & not “feed”. First-things-first. Long term big picture matters today. Praying for unity of America (as we impact the world) & that the blind might see & turn from selfishness to selflessness, entitlement to hard work, unforgiveness to forgiveness, hate to love, and fear to faith. May you have a blessed day… ❤️✝️🙏 https://www.instagram.com/p/CjLcV6OOn6bahgiy_t5XYfwNvU3FDejRVdZoig0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Understanding Impairment Rating In Worker’s Compensation Case
When workers get hurt or become ill due to their job, their compensation insurance provides financial assistance while they recuperate. And one of your first concerns, if and when this happens, is "How much will I receive for my workers' compensation claim?" What are impairments? What is a good impairment rating?
Here you will get to know about the essentials of how a workers' compensation impairment rating affects employers and employees. And how consulting an expert attorney can provide you with more specific information about your case.
What is an impairment?
An injured worker in Workers' Compensation cases may be released by their doctor once they have reached maximal medical progress (i.e., as good as you will get). The doctor will issue a rating concerning the impairment if this occurs.
The rating is a measurement of the degree of impairment so that the worker, employer, and insurance company all know how severe the injury is. They may find that your workplace injury has rendered you wholly or partially handicapped.
When you hear the word impairment, remember it includes several types and degrees of impairment.
Permanent impairment
This kind of impairment is permanent, and it could be a lack of motion or strength in a hand or arm, etc.
Partial Impairment
This disability is limited to a single bodily part, such as vision loss in one eye or hearing loss in one ear.
Temporary Impairment
This kind of impairment won't endure indefinitely. When an injury occurs, it frequently leads to a period of incapacity. A worker who fractures their hip is one example of a temporary limitation. This type of damage will cause substantial impairment, but with the correct therapy and assistance, they can recover completely.
Total Impairment
This form of impairment has a broad impact on the individual. A person with a spinal cord injury is an example of total disability.
Tumblr media
Impairment rating
A rating for impairment is a scale that assesses the impairment severity and is expressed as a percentage from 0% to 100%. So, the rating determines the type of impairment.
A worker is regarded as totally disabled if his or her medical impairment rating is greater than 50% on the impairment rating chart. This indicates the person will be unable to return to work allowing workers to continue collecting workers' compensation benefits indefinitely.
A worker is said to be partially disabled if his or her medical impairment level is less than 50%, which signifies he or she is qualified to work again in some capacity. A worker with a partial handicap, on the other hand, can nonetheless file a workers' compensation claim.
What is a Good Impairment Rating?
0% rating is considered to be the best rating as such a worker is expected to do any task assigned by the employer with no problem and is considered to have no impairment as per the chart.
Do they pay me lost wages for the work I used to do?
The answer is a resounding 'No.' Your permanent impairment and its rating benefit are the only things social security and workers' compensation have to pay you. They offer you an impairment benefit if you can't do a similar job you used to do. What they care about is whether you can do any job within a 50-mile radius of your home that is at least sedentary.
To Conclude:
Employers and insurance firms are hesitant to pay wounded workers what they need and deserve. They frequently try to minimize their duties by putting workers back too soon or obtaining a lower impairment rating. Your lawyer can ensure that you are treated fairly throughout the process and that your rating accurately reflects the impact of your accident on your life and future.

How To Easily (And Quickly) Collect Traumatic Brain Injury Claims At Work?
What is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)?
Traumatic Brain Injuries or TBI are life-alternating injuries that can cause death or even disability to the victim. TBIs can be caused an object penetrating the skull and damaging the brain tissue or a direct blow to the head.
When the skull moves quickly and forcefully, it causes damage to the brain. A TBI can even be caused by sudden air pressure changes, such as an explosion or near-drowning experience. A concussion is often an indicator of a TBI.
TBI at Workplace
Traumatic Brain Injury is a severe hazard for employees in many industries. TBIs can happen at your workplace, or they can happen outside of work.
In addition to the worker's current injury, long-term consequences can occur with a TBI. In America, about 2 million people get a TBI over one every minute, every day. These disabilities could affect an individual's ability to work and make it harder to focus on the tasks at hand.
At the workplace, TBI can result from an accident at work or from getting injured at home and then coming to work without realizing it. The symptoms of TBI include headache, confusion, loss of balance and coordination, dizziness, nausea, ringing in the ears, and blurry or double vision.
TBI can be caused by various injuries that affect the brain; these include subdural hematoma (bleeding around the brain), contusion (bruising), and laceration.
Filing a Brain Injury Claim in 5 simple steps
Head injury is a severe issue, and it may happen while in the workplace. These are the steps to file a TBI injury claim at the workplace:
 1. Get medical attention as soon as possible.
2. Contact your employer to inform them of your injury.
3. Report the injury to the Workers' Compensation Board.
4. Gather any information that might be relevant to your claims, such as doctor's notes, reports from your employer, and witness statements.
5. Contact an experienced TBI lawyer for help with filing your compensation claim.
TBI Compensation
TBI compensation is a complicated matter to deal with; not only does the injured party need to endure physical and mental anguish, but they also need to battle the compensation system to get their deserved money and assets.
Many TBI victims do not know what type of coverage they might be entitled to or navigate the system. Therefore, they need to know that even if they cannot work, they could still be entitled to a monthly disability income from Social Security. This benefit is limited, but it can be a lifesaver for those with no other income.
Types of TBI
To receive TBI compensation, three types of injuries merit consideration: physical, cognitive, and emotional.
 1) Physical traumas include concussions or other brain damage that can be detected by an MRI or CAT scan.
 2) Cognitive injuries are harder to detect and usually occur without a blow to the head. It includes any memory problems that might arise, difficulty concentrating on tasks, or thinking quickly.
 3) Emotional trauma can also come from a TBI and is often overlooked. It's important to remember that people with TBIs may express their trauma differently. As mental health is still taboo and hence ends up on the back burner.
Depending on the type of your injury, you might receive your compensation. The average TBI compensation in the US is $160,000. This amount varies based on the severity of the injury. For example, an individual with a severe traumatic brain injury may recover from an initial award of $1 million after a few years. An individual who has a mild TBI may recover from an initial award of $50,000 after a few years.
